Pain and sorrow are disorienting. It’s like riding in a train car that seems to be moving forward, when you are actually moving backward, and suddenly you become aware of the real direction. We often experience such circumstances, watching beloved friends suffer, and occasionally walking through them ourselves. In such moments, we recognize with greater clarity our desperate need for God.
