Elton: Day 12

Elton had a ball today. A big one. Under his right knee.

Our dear friend Nancy visited us to provide Elton with the first of several physical therapy sessions. He is also maintaining his FIVE HOURS of exercise on the CPM machine (Continuous Passive Motion) or as my wife calls it “continuous ‘pain’ in motion.” Elton is handling all of it like a trooper.

The key to getting Elton to walk is strengthening his quadriceps. In addition to using professional equipment, Nancy is teaching Elton how to workout his legs using common items like a blanket or towel. the goal is to equip Elton to exercise when he returns home to Zimbabwe.

Nancy prayed with Elton as they started, which I thought was most appropriate. In God’s strength even the CPM machine is manageable, for as it says in the New Testament book of 2 Corinthians 12:9:

"[The Lord said] My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
